My refection and evaluation of ideas and action plan for future progress

Well this week has been all go, I aimed to print my lengths on accertate on the 21st, but after waiting for an hour, they’d run out of accertate! Which only came in on wednesday afternoon. So I’ve spent a total of 4 hours sitting queuing for drop in. But managed to get them printed off my Friday.  I finished my 3rd collar a few hours before the photo shoot, and had had problems trying to get a model, so in the end had to model my work myself, which turned out fine, seeing my tubes where far too tight and the models wouldn’t have fit into them. It was annoying as I’m not too happy behind the camera, but had a big mirror in front of me and decided on 3 close ups for my wall, as I wanted to show the detail in my collars rather than show the model. But for my portfolio I have printed off 2 full length and one body shot, as I feel it looks more professional and also shows off the flowing crepe de chine very well. I also managed to finish of my promotional pack, but still need to print off the cover letter and press release on nicer paper, next week. I am extremely happy with my press release. I feel it reflects my collection very well and looks professional and sleek.

Next week is going to kill me as I have alot of tying up of loose ends and still need to finalise my project report.  Aswell as make some instu images and annotate my tec file.

Week 12 - 16/5/11

  • trial runs on different papers, for backdrop
  • design business cards
  • print out final lenths
  • sew up final lengths
  • type up press release

The methodology I will be undertaking…

  • digital print
  • CAD

My refection and evaluation of ideas and action plan for future progress

This week has been the first week where things have actually started to happen the way I wanted, apart from the fact I had 4 hours worth of lengths to be printed and only a 2 hour slot booked. I managed to work through the dinner hour and get all 4 dress squares printed. Ready to be taken home on the Saturday where my mum showed me how to hem the bottoms and sew the sides and still keep them looking professional, I’m not gonna lie I didnt think it would take so long, in total it took a full day. But I am very impressed by the skills learnt and think the inside of my 4 final tubes, look better than dresses I own, made by professionals. As well as producing my final 4 pieces, I have also written up my press release and sent off for some business cards from petrol cards.

I also printed on accertate and tracing paper in a variety of saturation and hues, to see which would look best behind my final dresses. I decided on a bold crisp clear pattern on a roll of accertate.. I now need to experiment with colours on the accertate as some colours still look dull.

Week 11 - 9/5/11

What I aim to do…

  • experiment with different material
  • mock up
  • start on collars
  • produce lengths

The methodology I will be undertaking…

  • digital print
  • laser cut

My refection and evaluation of ideas and action plan for future progress

I found it hard to find a space on the laser cutter this week, but managed to get the pieces needed cutting.. I also experimented with dying.. I am fed up with the fact I’m still sampling, but i want to get the colour perfect for complimenting my chosen designs. The indigo kept going ‘off’ which pushed me back another week. And the brazil-wood and logwood had changed colour completely!  I also sampled with different saturations for my final pieces, as the colours messed up ont eh bamboo silk, I want them to be perfect on the printers, but I keep getting thrown onto different printers making a slight alteration in the colour.

Week 10 - 2/5/11

What I aim to do…

  • experiment with different material
  • mock up
  • fashion illustration

The methodology I will be undertaking…

  • digital print
  • laser cut

My refection and evaluation of ideas and action plan for future progress

I’d say this has been the worst week, the digital printers broke and wouldnt make the colour orange, so i could only print out my blue designs, which I was then told were steamed.. but were’nt so I washed £30 worth of prints down the washing machine. I did manage to plan my exhibition space, but i still need to talk to julie about that. I then had 2 sleepless nights with agonising pains which I’ve had to book a doctors appointment for.

This week was full of experimenting with contrast and saturation on my digital prints. But they all turned out far too bold.. I’m really not happy! But the next week I should hopefully get this organised in the first couple of days..

Week 8 - 18/4/11

What I aim to do…

  • experiment with different material
  • mock up
  • fashion illustration

The methodology I will be undertaking…

  • digital print

My refection and evaluation of ideas and action plan for future progress

As it is easter, I can not get hold of anymore fabric till next week, So have looked at making sure the patterns are perfect this week, ready for printing and creating next week. I sampled with the natural dyes and bamboo silk, and again the colours were far to harsh. So I have decided to stop experimenting and focus now on my fabric manipulation.

Week 7 - 11/4/11

What I aim to do…

  • experiment with different material
  • mock up

The methodology I will be undertaking…

  • digital print

My refection and evaluation of ideas and action plan for future progress

This week college has been really empty, which I’ve enjoyed. I’ve created a few main digital patterns, incorporating my drawings as well as photography. I have also coated and printed on bamboo silk, as it is not only ethical but also has a great feel and shimmer to the texture of the fabric. However I will have to wait till monday to steam and wash it. So fingers crossed the outcome will look great, as the image looked rather faint when printed.

Week 6 - 4/4/11

What I aim to do…

  • Mock ups
  • Draw

The methodology I will be undertaking…

  • Fabric Manipulation

My refection and evaluation of ideas and action plan for future progress.

I haven’t done too much this week, as I decided to have a few days off for easter, and stay in college throughout the holiday. So for the rest of the week, I looked at how I will involve my laser cut pieces in my garments. So created a few mini mock up pieces on my mannequin at home. These have really helped me visualise how I want my collection to look, so have carried on drawing up different ideas from these mock up pieces.

Week 5 - 28/3/11

What I aim to do…

  • Draw
  • get in the dye lab
  • produce some more digital images
  • digital print
  • make mini manipulated samples

The methodology I will be undertaking…

  • Using photoshop/illustrator to create some samples for the digital printer
  • Making manipulated samples

My refection and evaluation of ideas and action plan for future progress.

My drawing and making mini manipulated samples did not go very well this week, however I produced various digital prints and created 4 natural dyes and sampled on the prints and other material. The natural dyes did not take well to the silk twill, and turned every peice a brassy deep orange, instead of a navy blue or pink. Also the silk twill has run out, so I’ll have to experiment on another material that has been coated for the digital printer. I also drew up some ideas after looking through a couple couture books and the recent alexander mcqueen book. I feel this inspiration will help develop my final pieces.

PPD Notes - Placements

This week I have contacted a few companies for placements and also attended an interview with ‘creative milkround.’ I contacted:

  • Felicity Brown - (straight away I recieved an email explianing I’d be contacted when they are back from Paris on the 10th of March, however that was 11 days ago.)
  • Ada Zanditon - ( Ada emailed back straight away, stating ‘I am definitely interested in offering you a placement, however I am a very small company so I can only offer unpaid internships. It is very hands on and you will get a lot of direct experience working on the collection and learn a lot about how small eco brand operates.’ adsfadf I feel this will be a great opportunity as she creates her own ethical garments from her own digitally printed patterns. My 1 month placement with Ada will start in July.)
  • Junky Styling - ( On friday 18/3/11 I went down to their London store for an interview, the feed back was great! However I wanted another 1 month placement in August, so I can start working full time by september. However they want me for 3 months, so we have decided that I will work with them for 2/3 days a week and then work along side. The feedback they gave:

* Beautiful illustrative style and attention to detail

* Great creative taste

* Good use of colour

For my interview arranged through ‘creative milkround’. I got the opportunity to talk to two representatives from ‘Graham and Brown’ who told me I have:

  • great illustration
  • versatile creativity
  • I’m on the right track for a career towards fashion
  • To carry on creating fashion fabrics, but never limit myself to just fashion, as I have the ability to delve into interiors if I wish to.

They seemed to really like the variety of work I have achieved over the last two years and see it as a great attribute to my future as a designer. They said my work could be used not only as fashion prints, but also scanned through and used as wallpaper for ‘Graham and Brown’. They also thought my work I produced for Tigerprint, would look great for their ‘wall art’. After this interview, I considered looking into interiors, but my true passion lies in ethical fashion, so feel this is something to look I could keep in mind for future prospects.
